Malawi’s traditional donors under the Common Approach to Budgetary Support (CABS) are locked up in a meeting at this hour (16:00 hours, October 3) in Lilongwe with the Vice President, Khumbo Kachali.
The meeting comes in the wake of corruption and fraud scandals that have rocked the country’s civil service with trails pointing to the government.
Whereas the government has attempted to downplay the crisis before it as no crisis, signs of panic can now be felt and acceptances of the fact that this is an actual crisis are emerging from the actions of the country’s top dogs.
Yesterday, Hawa Ndilowe, Chief Secretary, had a meeting with top civil servants and it is alleged that the day before it was the Vice President who met with the cabinet.
As all this goes on, however, President Banda is in the US.
