Police interviewing Mphwiyo over shooters, denies there is an arrest warrant for Kasambara

Malawi Police Service says it has sent in detectives in South Africa to interview Mr. Paul Mphwiyo, the man at the very centre of the Capitol Hill fiasco whose shooting opened a can of worms that could not be closed but exposed rampant corruption in the public sector.

According to Deputy Police Inspector General, Nelson Bophani, two officers flew to South Africa earlier this week and are expected to be returning home this same weekend. He said the two officers had gone there for the specific mission of interviewing Mphwiyo who is being kept at an undisclosed location in the rainbow nation after being discharged from hospital. It is not known when Mphwiyo will return home after the retained Minister of Foreign Affairs disclosed that he will be in South Africa for security reasons,

Meanwhile, the Police denied social media reports that they had obtained an arrest warrant for former Minister of Justice, Ralph Kasambara, in connection to the shooting. However, the Police did not rule out any possibilities of picking Kasambara for questioning.

Police is keeping in custody three suspects over the shooting of the Director of Budgeting in the Ministry of Finance.
