LIST OF PRESIDENTIAL CANDIDATES APPROVED BY MEC

The Malawi Electoral Commission (MEC) has today released a list of candidates that have been approved to stand as Presidential candidates in the May tripartite elections.

Published below, unabridged, is the media statement from the commission as shared on the social network:

“…in pursuance with Section 51 of the Parliamentary and Presidential Elections Act, the Malawi Electoral Commission is informing the public that the following candidates have been validly nominated to contest in the 20th May, 2014 Presidential Election. The names are in alphabetical order of surnames.

1. Dr Joyce Hilda Banda of the People’s Party (PP) and the running mate is Sosten Alfred Gwengwe

2. Dr. Lazarus McCarthy Chakwera of the Malawi Congress Party (MCP) and the running mate is Richard Msowoya

3. Kamuzu Walter Chibambo of the People’s Transformation Party (PETRA) and the running mate is White Millen Scander

4. Friday Anderson Jumbe of the New Labour Party (NLP) and the running mate is Joseph Petro Kubwalo

5. Aaron Davies Chester Katsonga of Chipani Cha Pfuko (CCP) and the running mate is Godfrey Matenganya

6. Mark Katsonga Phiri of the Peoples Progressive Movement (PPM) and the running mate is Prof Jacob Fojamuheni Crossan Mbunge.

7. Atupele Muluzi of the United Democratic Front (UDF) and the running mate is Dr. Godfrey Moses Chapola

8. Prof. Peter Mutharika of the Democratic Progressive Party (DPP) and the running mate is Saulos Klaus Chilima

9. George Nnesa of the Malawi Forum for Unity and Development (MAFUNDE) and the running mate is Sylvester Chabuka

10. James Mbowe Nyondo of the National Salvation Front (NASAF) and the running mate is Ethel Peter Changa;

11. Abusa Helen Singh of the United Independence Party (UIP) and the running mate is Chrissy Ndhliwase Tembo”
