MEC NOT TO BE PRESSURISED TO RELEASE THE RESULT- MBENDERA

Malawi Electoral Commission (MEC) has maintained its stand that the body is independent  and it will not be harried by anyone to release the results of the just held tripartite election.

MEC chairperson Maxon Mbendera said this today during the press briefing held at National Tally Centre in Blantyre aiming at updating Journalist as well as the nation on the progress of the general election.

In his speech he said that Electoral laws allow the body to release the results within the period of 8 days.

“The Electoral law requires MEC to release the results within the period of eight days and the body is within the line.

“No matter what the body will not be pressurized by anyone to release the results”, he said.

He said the counting of days is supposed to start from yesterday.
