JUMBE CHALLENGES VOTE RECOUNTS; OBTAINS AN INJUNCTION

As disagreement  among political parties continues to haunt the release of the first ever tripartite election the country hosted, New Labour Party (NLP) President Friday Jumbe has obtained an Injunction restraining Malawi Electoral Commission to start recounting the votes due numerous irregularities.

Judge Healy Potani made the determination Yesterday in Lilongwe.

NLP President through his Lawyer is arguing that the decision made by electoral body to do recount of the election is unconstitutional .

It was observed that section 114 of the constitution only empowers the high court to make a determination on vote recounting.

Meanwhile it is not yet known if MEC will challenge the decision is no one from the electoral body was available for comment.

This is the first time to happen in Malawi as far as general elections are concerned.
