Malawi Institute of Journalism (MIJ)fm comic maker Nicholas Mbonela popularly known as Che Nkope on Monday was flown to South Africa for Medical treatment.
The development comes barely days after Minister of Health spokesperson Henry Chilimbali’s communiqué that any day this week the artist will be flown to South Africa.
Mbonela was diagnosed with Cardiogenic shock-a condition in which the heart cannot pump enough blood as the body requires and was admitted at Blantyre Adventist Hospital in the Intensive Care Unit (ICU).
Ministry of Information, Tourism and Culture, Kondwani Nankhumwa confirmed of the development to the press that Mbonela has left the country.
The move to assist Mbonela comes following a pledge by President Professor Author Peter Mutharika to help the comic maker to get best medical treatment outside the country.
Government will spend over K6 million for Mbonela’s treatment, thus both medical bill and flight costs.
