PETER FOTE SLAPPED ONE YEAR BAN OVER MATCH FIXING

Date:

Football Association of Malawi (FAM) has slapped Malawi Broadcasting Corporation (MBC) sports journalist Peter Fote a one year ban in any football related activities after being found guilty of match fixing.

Fote allegedly offered to help Benin national team with technical information of how the team can beat flames at an agreed fee.

But this was revealed when the reporter sent a text meant for Benin officials to Flames liaison officer James Sangala unknowingly.

Confirming the ban, FAM Chief Executive officer Suzgo Nyirenda said: “Fam [has] resolved to ban [Fote] for one year from all football related activities, including reporting and football commentary activities”.

The football governing body has also warned Fote that the ban will be extended if he breaches any condition.
