Piksy talks new music, trashes critics

Piksy is on top of the world these days, following his one a record-breaking performance at the Airtel Party on Saturday, August 16, the hip-hop star spoke to Face of Malawi about his upcoming album and his critics.

The hip-hop star is gearing up for the release of his much anticipated album Mnthunzi. The star has flown out of his “Tsoka Liyenda” video and is yet to release a new one titled ‘Oh Yeah’ which is also from the album yet to be released. The upcoming video among others features actors 2 Kay and Halla also known as Tom and Jerry, “its crazy and fun, am sure people will like it a lot,” he commented.

Commenting on recent dirty smutty remarks made by Producer Percy ‘Pro-Pee’ Manyozo regarding his ‘Tsoka Liyenda’ music video, Piksy said “I heard that, and I think that was by far the most disgusting thing I’ve heard,” he told our reporter. “Not because it was taking a shot at me, but I was just thinking about aspiring the youth and my fellow young musicians, not every Jim and Jack can understand the concept of my video other than my fans and those that understand what I stand for, because when developing the concept for a video, “you’re always going to tap into something that you didn’t with your previous project — you know, it’s quite a specific state of mind,” he says. “All the characters in that video are in quite a special kind of headspace, so I think you can kind of hear that in the song. But it was important to me that it stood apart from the audio track as well and it works.”

He continued by saying “if music is what you want to do; if it is your love and your passion, it doesn’t take a fragrance, it’s not about the paper,” Piksy encouraged viewers. “It’s about you putting in the work, practicing every day, and hopefully one day you write the song the whole world wants to get down to. Some people might seem big in the industry but the truth is, they are weak-minded and jealous of other people’s success, but that spirit will not take us anywhere, because instead of helping and developing each other, we are wasting our valuable time criticizing others. Malawi being a developing country, we, its inhabitants need to develop with it and stop our evil primitive ways, it’s for the better.”

And with that, Piksy got up and charged into the audience, hugging and kissing the cheering fans as the Airtel Money theme song played.

Currently preceded by three huge singles (“Tsoka Liyenda,” “Maloto” and “Nzozodo”), the 28-year-old has become an outspoken role model for young fans — “It would be naïve of me not to try be their (representative) as best as I can and be a realistic voice for them as well, I did notice myself gravitating toward a lot of young people, and the energy in doing so is volatile and aggressive and impulsive and just feels very youthful ” he says.

Piksy is currently Airtel Malawi’s brand ambassador.
