Police in the Eastern District of Balaka have arrested a Primary School teacher for allegedly defiling an 11-year-old standard 3 pupil.

Balaka Police Spokesperson Inspector Joseph Sauka confirmed of the development and identified the suspect as Bartholomew Ignacio aged 44, a teacher at Mpilisi Full Primary School.

According Sauka, the case came to light after the victim revealed the issue to her mother who later reported the matter to Police.

The victim told the Police that the suspected had been defiling her on several times.

“She said at first, the suspect called the victim to his house to watch films but instead he defiled her. Since then, the suspect had been defiling the victim and was told not to reveal to anyone. She said she thought of revealing the ordeal after seeing that she was tired of the torture,” said Sauka.

According to Sauka, the suspect will appear in court soon to answer charges of defilement which is contrary to section 138(1) of the penal code.
