Though the people escaped unhurt, the fire destroyed most of the property whose value has not yet been established.

Mzuzu City Council deployed firemen with two vehicles but they were overwhelmed as the fire spread to the two buildings, Choma which is close to Mzuzu Bus Depot and Mirza which is opposite Mzuzu Shopping Centre, destroying several goods in the process.

Wednesday’s market fire incident is the sixth in a space of two years in Mzuzu City only. Surprisingly, in all the incidents, the fires have occurred at around the same time and their causes have hardly been clearly explained by anybody.
