A 65-year-old man is in Police custody in the Northern district of Rumphi for allegedly being found in possession of a firearm without proper documents.
Rumphi Police have identified the suspect as Lucy Gondwe from Chivwanyuma village, Traditional Authority Mwalweni in Rumphi district.
According to the Police, the suspect was arrested on December 6, 2015 during an operation the police under took in the district.
“After enquiries, it was established that the riffle, Short Gun, Number 4521, Calibre 12 bores, make B. S. A, belonged to her husband, who died in September, 2014,” reads the statement.
Meanwhile investigations are still under way on the matter.
