Mutharika shocked with Mzuzu fatal accident

President Professor Arthur Peter Mutharika has expressed shock over the death of 15 people who died in a road accident at Msiki area in Mzuzu on Friday.

In a statement made available to faceofMalawi signed by Presidential Press Officer Mgeme Kalilani, Mutharika has described the accident as one of the worst national tragedies.

“The accident is one of the worst national tragedies in our recent past as it has killed and injured many people at the same time,” reads the statement in part.

Mutharika and first Lady have also wished quick recovery to those people who have sustained injuries and are receiving treatment at Mzuzu Central Hospital.

Most of the casualties are children from Chiputula CCAP School who were travelling in a lorry and were going to Karonga for a church event.

Meanwhile the remains of two people are still at Mzuzu Central Hospital waiting for identification.
