Man arrested for killing an elderly woman suspected of practicing witchcraft

Kanengo Police Station is keeping in custody a 37 year old man suspected of murdering an elderly woman in Kaombalichero village, T/A Chimutu in Lilongwe.

According to reports, the deceased was an adult and was being accused of practising witchcraft after a child had accused her of being a witch. This did not go down with the woman who ended up beating the child.

The child went and reported the matter to his father Elifala Dzimbiri, who went to the old woman’s house and beat her up with sticks.

The woman, Agnes Mkwanda, comes from Kaombalichero Village, T/A Chimutu in Lilongwe.

Postmortem done at Kanuzu Central Hospital shows that death was due to severe head and chest injuries as the deceased was found with multiple rib fractures.

The suspect, Elifala Dzimbiri, 37, comes from Kaombalichero Village, T/A chimutu in Lilongwe and will appear in court soon.
