No Ed Ul-Fitr Holiday for MSCE candidates on Monday

The Malawi National Examination Board (MANEB) has said examinations will proceed on Monday for all candidates sitting for this year’s Malawi School Certificate of Education (MSCE) despite government declaring the day as Public holiday.

The Ministry of Local Government and Rural Development on Thursday declared Monday 26, 2017 as public holiday to commemorate Eid-ul-Fitr marking the end of the Islamic Holy month of Ramadhan.

Eid or Eid al-Fitr marks the end of Ramadan, which is a month of fasting that started on May 27 and will finish on Saturday June 25 and the start of the next month, Shawwal.

“The Ministry of Local Government and Rural Developnent is, therefore, wishing all Muslims in Malawi and in Diaspora, Happy Eid Mubarak, and the general public a restful public holiday on Monday, 26 June 2017,” reads in part the statement.

But MANEB Public Relations Officer Simeon Maganga said the exams will proceed on Monday despite the day being public holiday.

“Take note that the 2017 Exam will proceed as time-tabled despite Monday being a public holiday,” said Maganga in short statement.

Over 146-thousand candidates have been registered to sit for MSCE examination.
