Cyclist killed in road accident in Dwangwa

A 69 year old man is reported dead in Dwangwa after being hit by a vehicle along the Dwangwa/Nkhotakota M5 road on Thursday the 20th July, 2017.

Nkhotakota Police spokesperson Sub Inspector Laban Makalani confirmed of the accident in a statement made available to Faceofmalawi reporter.

“The accident, which involved a motor vehicle; Toyota Towance Pick Up, Reg number MJ 5411, which was driven by Stambuli Saka, aged 25 of vge Longwe, T/A Kanyenda in Nkhotakota district, occurred at about 1900HRS.

“During the time, the driver was travelling from Nkhotakota BOMA whist heading Dwangwa. When he reached at the said place, he hit the pedal cyclist who was cycling towards the same direction. Due to the impact, the cyclist sustained severe head injuries and he died before receiving treatment at Matiki Health Centre,” said Makalani.

The deceased has been identified as Lingson Hegwell who hailed from Lobi vge, T/A Kachere in Dedza district.

The vehicle has been impounded as the police have launched an investigation.
