Property Worth K16.8 Million, 23 Houses Destroyed by Masanje Fire in Mangochi

Property worth K16.8 million and a total number of 23 houses have been destroyed at Kafukuta village in Mangochi following a fire that started with a seven-year-old girl who was playing the traditionally kids “Masanje” cooking games.

Mangochi police spokesperson Rodrick Maida said that the young girl was doing her Masanje games outside her house and later left the fire unattended as she went away for a bit.

“That it when strong winds passed by and blew the fire to a video show room made of wood and grasses that was near the houses. Following that, other houses made of wood which were nearby got affected and also caught fire,” according to Maida.

One person sustained burns in the process and also beddings, clothes, kitchen utensils and farm produce all worth K16.8 million were burnt to ashes.
