A six-month-old baby boy was mauled and killed by a dog at home in Johannesburg on Wednesday.
The baby identified as Callum was attacked by a pit bull and died at his grandmotherâs house in Primroseâ said ER24 spokesman Russel Meiring.
âParamedics were lead into the lounge of the home where they found the body of the childââ he said.
âWhen the baby was assessedâ he had sustained several serious bite wounds and showed no signs of life. Unfortunatelyâ the boy had already succumbed to his injuries. Nothing more could be done and he was declared deadââ added Meiring.
The circumstances around the incident are under investigation.
Speaking to the Germiston City News after the death of her baby boy, Ané Stols, said:
âHe was always smiling, had no problems and was very loving.â
âApparently she took him out of the car and started walking to the house and the dog started attacking Callum in his car chair,â said AnĂ©.
The Germiston City News reported that Gerard Edward, AnĂ©âs partner of a year, said that the dog had always been aggressive.
Ané added that the dog had never liked children. She has two other children, Kiana 3 and Zian 5.
