MP Martha Lunje threatens to sue the media for exposing her for having a hand in the missing newspapers in Parliament

Member of Parliament for Nkhotakota North East Martha Chanje Lunji has threatened to sue the media especially Zodiak Broadcasting Station (ZBS) for exposing her of having a hand in the missing newspapers belonging to Malawi Congress Party (MCP) MP Vitus Dzoole Mwale.

Last week Mwale lodged a written complaint with the office of the Speaker Richard Msowoya complaining of his missing newspapers and other documents.
Due to the complaint, Msowoya launched a probe on the matter through the privilege committee of the house which was headed by Roy Kachale Banda.

The footage presented in the August House on Thursday showed three MPs namely; Reverend Christopher Mzomera Ngwira (Mzimba Hora) Martha Lunji (Nkhotakota North East) and Francis Phiri (Blantyre North) tempering with Dzoole Mwale’s drawer.

“[Phiso] lifted the newspapers, perused them then showed them to [Mzomera]. He then picked up a document and went through it, then replaced them.

“At13:36 hours [Mzomera] proceeded to the seat of [Dzoole], dipped his hands in the drawer and fished out the newspapers and proceeded to his seat”, Kachale Banda explained.

The story attracted attention of many media houses in the country including faceofmalawi and Zodiak Broadcasting Station (ZBS) who aired the story and this did not please MP Martha Lunje.

Standing on point of order on Thursday afternoon, Lunje asked the Speaker if it’s in order for the press to start spreading the news she had a hand in the missing newspapers.

“Mr. Speaker sir, Is it in order for the media especially Zodiak to link my name to the missing newspapers? How will the people of my constituency look at me?” queried Lunje.

Delivering his ruling on the matter, Msowoya said he is also the victim and there is nothing he can do on the matter.

Msowoya advised to seek legal action is she feels injured with how the story was reported.
