PAC demonstrations on Electoral Reforms bill cancelled

Date:

Information sourced by faceofmalawi indicates that the religious body Public Affairs Committee (PAC) has cancelled nationwide demonstrations scheduled for December 13, 2017 over delay by government to table the six electoral reforms bills.

On Monday afternoon, government circulated the remaining three electoral reforms bill including the much debated 50+1 electoral bill.

Making the announcement on Monday, Speaker of the National Assembly Richard Msowoya said the business committee has resolved that Thursday should be dedicated to Electoral reforms bills.

“There will be no Private Members’ business and the whole day will be dedicated to this [the Electoral Reforms Bills],” said Msowoya in his announcement.

Due to this move, PAC has resolved to call off the demonstrations.

PAC is expected to announce the cancellation today during a media briefing.
