Man killed by angry mob for allegedly stealing four goats in Mchinji

A 37 year old man Funanji Tafatatha has been grazed to death by an angry mob after he was found in possession of four stolen goats.

During the wee hours of April 27 2018, Tafatatha (now deceased) informed his wife Elube frackson (24) of Mangilira village T/A Khongoni in Lilongwe that he wanted to go to their garden for cultivation, surprisingly, the same morning he was found at Puwele village carrying four goats on his bicycle which were discovered to have been stolen from a nearby village.

This revelation impelled the community to come against him and started to assault him before he was rescued by his sympathizers.

After his relatives learnt of his assault, they took him and reported the matter to Kamwendo Police unit where they were referred to Kochilira Rural Hospital for examinations and treated but his condition prompted the medical officers to refer him further to Mchinji District Hospital.

Against this decision, the relatives chose to take him back home but suddenly he died on their way. A postmortem conducted at Mchinji District Hospital has revealed that Funanji Tafatatha died of head injuries and internal bleeding.

The deceased hailed from Kwacha village traditional authority Simphasi in Mchinji.

Meanwhile, the police through Mchinji Police Station is appealing to the general public to desist from mob justice and stop talking the law into their hands but rather they should seek for proper ways inorder for justice to prevail.

The police has instituted investigating into the matter to arrest the perpetrators and they shall answer murder charges once arrested.
