Teenage Twins Die after Drowning in Mzimba

A 14-year-old teenage twins identified as Bettie and Lyness Mvalo have died after getting drowned in a dam.

Mzimba Police public relations officer Peter Botha said on Tuesday this week, the two girls left home on a mission to fetch firewood but they did not report home on the said day.

This prompted villagers to search for them on the following day and their clothes were discovered near a dam.

People dived into the dam to search for them and the girl’s bodies were found.

Police visited the scene and took the bodies for a postmortem which revealed that the deaths were due to suffocation.

Meanwhile, due to increased cases of this kind, police have advised people to refrain to refresh themselves in deep running waters and also to avoid crossing bridges whose materials are not trustworthy.

The girls hailed from Muwuso village in the area of traditional authority Chindi in Mzimba.
