Police Arrests Three for malicious damage in Zomba

Police in Zomba are keeping in custody three men for allegedly digging part of a tarmac road, thereby damaging it in the process.

The suspects went on blocking the road and prevented motorists from passing by.

The three have been identified as Mussa Nyirenda, 22, Gift Botoman, 28, and Barnet Bamusi.

“The suspects were arrested following a minor road accident that occurred on 17 October at Nsomba Trading Centre in the district.

A minibus, registration number ZA 5185 which was being driven by a 34-year-old man only known as Antony, hit a 7-year-old boy as he was crossing the road.” Zomba Police Station PRO Sgt. Patricia Sipiliano narrated.

“Following the impact, the victim sustained a cut on a chin and was treated as an outpatient at Domasi Rural Hospital.” She added.

Later, the three suspects ganged up and maliciously damaged the road and blocked vehicles.

Police apprehended the three and charged them with malicious damage, contrary to Section 344 of the Penal code.

They will appear in court soon.

The three come from Chimbalanga Village in Traditional Authority Malemia in Zomba District.
