Zambia has today the 24th of October marked 54 years of independence from British colonial rule

Zambia is celebrating 54 years of independence, and various events are currently being held in parts of the country, to commemorate the day.

The theme for this year’s Independence celebrations is Celebrating A Shared Future Of Unity, Development And Prosperity.

In Lusaka, President Edgar Lungu is leading Zambians in the celebrations, with the main event at State House, and Zimbabwean President, Emmerson Mnangangwa is the guest of honour.

During the Investiture ceremony at State House, Zambians, who have contributed to the country’s development have been honoured.

Those honoured are Justice Anel Silungwe with the Order of the Eagle, Father Michael Kelly, Christopher Kajimbala, Dickson Mwansa and Francis Yamba with order of distinguished Service.

Others are Chief Madzimawe, Frankson Musukwa and Celestine Daly with the President’s insignia of honour while Augustine Mwila was honoured with the insignia of mercy.

Dr Bruce Bvulani, Vernon Pashi, Robert Zulu, Christopher Chanda , Slyvia Muchona , Kunda Kapembwa , Jean Chitende, Peggy Mashikati and Rebecca Kamboyi were honored with the President’s Insignia of Meritorious achievement.

Celebrations have continued at State House.
