MCP declares Lunguzi as winner in Dedza East Constituency following public outcry

Date:

Malawi Congress Party (MCP) has declared incumbent Member Parliament (MP) for Dedza East Constituency Juliana Lunguzi as winner in yesterday’s primary polls.

MCP conducted primaries on Sunday, November 25, 2018 at Makhama Primary School in the constituency and the presiding official.

But the presiding official Peter Chalera declared Patrick Bandawe as winner afte amassing 821 votes against Lunguzi who got 815 votes.

Although this was the case, many MCP supporters questioned the outcome of the primaries and some went on social media.

The development forced the party’s main elections committee to call for an emergency meeting this morning to analyze the outcome of the polls where the committee declared Lunguzi as a winner.

The news has pleased Lunguzi’s supporters with some sending congratulatory messages to her.
