World vision hosts German minister on latest land restoration technique

Date:

On Sunday, the 6th of January, 2019, World Vision Malawi hosted German Minister for Development Cooperation, Hon Müller, who came to visit World Vision’s Farmer Managed Natural Regeneration project, which combats poverty and hunger among deprived subsistence farmers.

According to World Vision, the method seeks to restore land by increasing food and timber production and resilience to climate extremes.

This has been confirmed on the organisation’s page, and the statement on the development reads: “Well, yesterday, we had the honour of hosting German Minister for Development Cooperation, Hon Müller who visited Chilu Village to appreciate our work with the community on Farmer Managed Natural Regeneration.”

It has also been noted that 29 tons of soil are lost per hectare each and every year in Malawi due to soil erosion.

Apart from working with Malawians on the said technique and other developments, it also launched the 2018-2022 National Multi-Sectional Nutritional Policy (NMNP) and Strategic Plan last year on 20th June, a function which First Lady Madame Gertrude Mutharika presided over.
