Three boys arrested for stabbing others over trendy girls

Police in Kasungu have arrested three teenagers for stabbing fellow boys after a fierce fight erupted over girls.

The incident occurred at around 7pm on Thursday at Kapopo village in the area of traditional authority Kaluluma in the district.

The suspects are Baliya Chirwa, 18, Owen Banda aged 18 and a 17 year-old teenager while the three victims are Mazden Chavula aged 18, Rodgers Isaac Kamanga aged 18 and another 17-year-old teenager.

Kasungu Public Relations Harry Namwaza said the two groups of teenagers were chasing the same girls and they agreed to meet at night on Thursday to fight.

“After failing to solve their misunderstandings amicably, the six boys on the stated date and time arranged to meet at a certain place within the village for a fight which could happen in pairs,” he explained.

In the course of fighting, the three suspects fished out knives with which they stabbed the three victims before running away from the fighting place, leaving the victims in pool of blood.

Some community members heard the cries of the victims and rushed to the scene. They then took the injured boys to Kaluluma Rural Hospital for medical treatment and examination.

Meanwhile, the victims have been referred to Kasungu District Hospital where they are receiving treatment.

The suspects have been charged with unlawful wounding but police say the charges leveled against them may change depending on medical reports.
