Malawi not linked to Kenyan terror attack

The Kenyan government has rejected reports that some of the terrorists who attacked a hotel complex in Nairobi, killing at least 21 people were from Malawi.

A South African analyst Izak Khomo, without presenting any sound evidence, claimed on SABC that Al-Shabab had recruited Malawians from the Yao tribe to carry out the attack at DusitD2 Hotel on Tuesday last week.

The analyst also linked countries like Tanzania, Zambia and Mozambique causing panic among people living in the SADC region.

One of the local daily papers in the country Daily Times jumped on the story and published with a title Malawi implicated in Kenyan terror.
The publication attracted criticisms from all corners describing the story as sensitive.

Meanwhile government through Minister of Information and Communications Technology Henry Mussa has issued a statement saying Kenya has cleared the country from the terror attack.

“Government wishes to inform the general public that the relevant authorities of the Government of the Republic of Kenya have confirmed that no Malawian national was involved in the terrorist attack in the Kenyan Capital, Nairobi” reads in part the statement.

Mussa has since advised all Media Houses in Malawi to exercise utmost care and professionalism when reporting on matters of national security and interest of any country, including Malawi.
