Suspect arrested for undressing female UTM member in Mangochi

Police have arrested a 28-year-old man in Mangochi for allegedly being connected with the assault of UTM members on Sunday in the district.

The suspect was among the youth cadets of the ruling Democratic Progressive Party (DPP) who on Sunday beat up members of UTM in Mangochi.

According to a video clip that has gone viral on social media, the DPP cadets assaulted the UTM members and stole their phones. The cadets also forced the UTM members including a woman to take off their UTM T-Shirts.

National Police Spokesperson, James Kadadzera confirmed of the arrest and identified the suspect as Adam Masitala.

According to Kadadzera, more suspects are expected to be arrested since Masitala was not alone when he committed the offense.

Kadadzera said Masitala will several charges and one of the charges being insulting the modesty of a woman.

Meanwhile analysts have doubted the arrest, saying it’s a PR stunt by the ruling DPP.
