Lightning kills one in Nkhata Bay

A 54 year old man only identified as Mr. Baiwell Banda has died in Nkhata Bay District after being struck by lightning last Sunday at Chimbano fishing camp.

According to his sister Mrs. Emily Justin Nyirenda, the deceased on January 6, 2019 morning went into the lake for fishing.

On his way back from the lake, rainy showers associated with lightning started.

As he was approaching the lake shore to pack his canoe, the lightning suddenly struck him.

The eye witness of the incident rushed to the scene to help the victim who was already dead.

The deceased was taken to Chintheche Rural Hospital where postmortem was conducted which revealed that the death was due to lightning shocks.

The deceased hailed from Chimbano village TA Malengamzoma in Nkhata Bay District.

Meanwhile police in the district are advising the general public to make sure that they are usually at a safe place when it is raining to avoid such deaths.
