CROCODILE KILLS A MAN IN NKHOTAKOTA

BY CHINSINSI CHEKETA

A 33 year old man has on Saturday died after being bitten by Crocodile in Chiwi River in Nkhotakota district.

Nkhunga police publicist Ignatius Esau identified the deceased as  Alinafe Manda who hailed from Chigadula village in the area of Traditional Authority (T/A) Kafuzila in the district.

Police reports indicate that the deceased was of unsound mind but was able to report back home every time he went out.

“On March 2, this year, the deceased left home and did not report back, a development which prompted his relatives to start searching for him, only to find him dead two days later near Kasitu fishing beach,” said Esau.

But it is in police records that only the deceased’s legs were found after the whole upper part of his body was eaten up by the crocodile from Chiwi River which the deceased is believed to have tried to cross on this fateful day.

Postmortem conducted at the hospital established that death was due to severe injuries secondary to complete removal of upper part of the deceased’s body.

Police has since called upon communities to be cautious when crossing rivers known to be infested with crocodiles.
