Jacaranda International Schools Open a Library at Kanjedza Primary School

By Robert Kumwenda

Jacaranda International schools have opened a library at Kanjedza Full Primary school in Blantyre.

Speaking during the opening, Luc Deschamps founder of the Jacaranda schools said this follows a request made by the councilor of Limbe Central ward Gerald Lipikwe when he was opening another library at Limbe Primary school last month.

He said the program of opening libraries in schools started long time ago and as of to date they have opened about fifteen libraries in different schools in Blantyre.

“Libraries are very important in schools because it is where teachers find the resources and we have received lots of request in Phalombe, Lilongwe and other districts for us to do the same,” he said.

Deschamps said he is trying to raise funds and is looking for other partners to help other schools in Malawi.

He said his interest came from his early childhood because his parents were teachers.
Speaking during the opening councilor for the area Gerald Lipikwe said he was very happy and grateful because his request has been answered.

He said the library will promote the culture of leading among the learners and improve their knowledge.

“This is one of the things that l promised people of this area before l was elected as councilor among the developments that am doing for the people of this ward and l will continue as l have been doing before,” he said.

Also speaking during the opening, Nellie Nkumba Head teacher for the school said they are very happy because the library will help learners and teachers to research.

She said the library will also help the learners to be able to read, learn English and improve their knowledge.

Nkumba has since asked other well-wishers to help the school because the school is facing many challenges like torn roofs and has few toilets, school blocks as compared to teachers.
