Elections Court Case Shifted to 14:00

The election case which was expected to be heard today in the morning hours following the application made by Malawi Electoral Commission seeking for more time to gather evidence pertaining to case has been shifted to 14:00 today.

The Constitutional Court is expected to deliver a ruling as to whether it should give Malawi Electoral Commission (MEC) more time to file and serve sworn statements pertaining to the case or not.

MEC is seeking more time on the basis that its lawyers were disrupted by some people when collecting testimonies.

Malawi Congress Party (MCP) leader Lazarus Chakwera and his counterpart Saulos Chilima of United Transformation Movement (UTM) are challenging May 21 presidential results in court.

Therefore the constitutional court requested the concerned parties to submit their evidence pertaining to the case of which MEC failed to do so on the required time by the court hence seeking for an extension.
