Mwimba College students to hold Agriculture Symposium on August 16

Final year students from Mwimba College of Agriculture located in the central district of Kasungu have organized a symposium which will bring together, the private sector, academia and the community.

Through the symposium students will be given a chance to showcase and sell themselves to potential employers through variously skills.

This is the 7th annual symposium and will take place on August 16, 2019 at Riverside Hotel in the capital Lilongwe under the theme “Diversity in marketing value addition and other entrepreneurial activities towards agricultural production.”

Secretary for the organizing team Hannah Nkhono said the Symposium has been organized to give outgoing students a chance to interact with potential employers and the community in particular.

On the preparations for the Symposium, Nkhono said everything is going on well only that the team is lacking enough funds for the Symposium.

“This year’s symposium is set to take place in Lilongwe at riverside hotel with the aim to attract more stakeholder’s and sell ourselves, for this to happen we need enough funds to cover up all the services such as , Reception, Food, Transport , Security guards, Advertisement , Artists and Banners.

“Since our school is under ARET, they do give us some amount of money to help us with the event but is not enough,” said Nkhono.

Nkhono also hinted on Internship problem, saying students struggle to secure places for Internship.

“Since we fight for ourselves to find organizations companies and farms to secure a place for internship or attachments sometimes we are let down by them and some students cannot manage to secure these places on themselves

“We really do need help from any potential sponsor who can help us and not only for us but for all the classes behind us so that when it’s their time they should not struggle with financial issues,” she said.

The Symposium will be attended by students, Agriculture expert and others from various institution and government departments.
