A 24-year old woman in Chikwawa has committed suicide after her longtime boyfriend walked out on her.
Chikwawa police spokesperson Foster Benjamin confirmed the development.
Fanny Fulaye, an ex-student who had passed the recently-released Malawi School Certificate of Examination (MSCE) with 13 points, hanged herself on Thursday evening at Sekeni village in Nchalo area.
Before hanging herself, earlier Fulaye had told her aunt that her longtime lover had terminated their affair.
Disgruntled Fulaye tragically ended her life after hanging herself from the roof.
She didn’t leave a note behind.
Postmortem results from St. Montfort Mission Hospital confirmed strangling as the cause of death.
Fulaye hailed from Mbenje village in Traditional Authority Chimombo in Nsanje District.
Meanwhile, police are advising those who get depressed not to contemplate suicide as a last resort but rather seek help from relevant authorities.
