HRDC to Announce Dates for Fresh Demos

The Organizers of Anti-Ansah demonstrations Human Rights Defenders Coalition (HRDC) has said they will soon announce dates for fresh Anti-Ansah demonstrations.

HRDC chairperson Timothy Mtambo confirmed the development following the expiry of the 14 day moratorium which the supreme court of appeal gave.

About two weeks ago, the Supreme Court of Appeal gave HRDC and Attorney General a 14 day moratorium to discuss the AG’s security concerns during demonstrations.

HRDC and the AG met and agreed on the dos and don’ts during the protests.

Aftermath of May 21 tripartite elections HRDC and some stakeholders have been calling for Malawi electoral commission (MEC) chairperson Jane Ansah to step down for mismanaging May 21 tripartite elections.

The electoral body declared a Democratic Progressive Party (DPP) candidate Peter Mutharika winner of the disputed elections seconded by Malawi Congress Party (MCP) candidate Lazarus Chakwera and United Transformation Movement (UTM) candidate Saulos Chilima trailed on the third position.

During the tallying of the elections results sheet a correctional fluid called Tipp-Ex was frequently used question the credibility of the results sheets.

UTM and MCP leaders are seeking nullification of the presidential election results in court.
