Girl saves her friend from crocodile attack, leaves reptile blind

ZIMBABWE – An 11-year-old Zimbabwean girl had to gouge the eyes of a crocodile to save her friend entrapped between the reptile’s jaws.

According to the reports, the shocking incident occurred near Hwange town, 200 miles northwest of Bulawayo, on Sunday.

Young Rebecca Munkombwe quickly understood something had gone wrong when she heard her close friend screaming in the deep waters of a local river. The teenager rushed to the scene only to see Latoya Muwani gripped by the large predator.

“I jumped on top of the crocodile and started beating it with my hands before using my fingers to poke its eyes until it released her. Once she was free, I swam with her to the bank where the other children pulled her out of the water,” the young savior explained in the aftermath.

The victim’s father described the incident as ‘miraculous’ as his daughter had not only managed to survive but had also received none-critical injuries. The girl has been since admitted to St Patrick’s Hospital.

“For a moment I thought of the worst before I learnt that she had survived after being saved by Rebecca. How she managed to do that I don’t know but am grateful to God. Latoya is recovering well here at St Patrick’s and we expect her to be discharged soon,” he stated.
