The Peace and Security Council (PSC) is a 15-member standing decision-making organ of the AU for the prevention, management and resolution of conflicts. It is the key pillar of the African Peace and Security Architecture (APSA), which is the framework for promoting peace, security and stability in Africa.

According to Francis Kasaila, Minister of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation, Malawi is ready to play its part in the promotion of peace and security on the continent by representing the interests of countries of the southern region through constant engagement with other Member States of the Union in ensuring that the African Peace and Security Architecture is promoted and implemented in line with the aspirations of Agenda 2063.

“This is an important opportunity for Malawi to sit at the decision making table on matters of peace and security on the continent. The election today is a vote of confidence and trust that African countries have on the capacity of our country. We are ready to serve.”, said Kasaila.

The PSC deals with a wide range of issues including sanctions; Counter-Terrorism; Resource Mobilisation; Procedures and Mechanisms for Peace Support Operations.
