It is normal for people to adopt children that aren’t their own but this can be a rare occurrence in the animal kingdom especially when the animals in question are direct competitors in the wild.
In India there has been an adoption between a lioness and a leopard cub.
Sadly, the baby leopard was found dead, last month.
Conservationists in the Gir National Park in India concluded that he died from a hernia that he’d been born with.
One of the scientists who witnessed the rare relationship is Dr. Stotra Chakrabati from the University of Minnesota.
