As a move to ensure the environment is being cared, Hindu Community has planted 2, 500 trees at Khungulu LEA School in Blantyre on Sunday.

chairperson for the Community, Vikesh Vanzara, said after the tree planting event that it is their duty to support Malawi government to make the country habitable.

“Government on its own cannot do everything for us. Let us not ask government what it can do for us; it is our duty to support government of the day on whatever it is necessary to develop the country.

“I have grown up in this country. It is pathetic that all our trees in our hills are down. Let us all come together and plant tree in these mountains. If we can only plant five trees individually, this country will become a very good country. Trees give us shelter, oxygen; they are important for us from birth to death,’ he said.

The school’s head teacher, Nicholas Chikwawa, said the trees that have been planted will help the school “with firewood in the school feeding program” ans also it will provide shelter because the district is hot.

Senior Chief Kuntaja pledged his total support to make sure that the trees survive.

“We have by-laws that will be enforced on perpetrators who will attempt to destroy the trees. This is the future of our children here,” he said.
