Zomba Task Force Formed to Fight COVID-19

Zomba has formed a multi-sectoral task force to strategize ways  to prevent transmission of Coronavirus which according to World Wealth Organisation (WHO) has become  a pandemic and a global emergency.

The task force comprise Zomba City Council, Malawi Defence Force, Malawi Police Services, Malawi Prison Services, Zomba Central hospital, the Banking sector, members of the Media, Business people and Religious bodies.

The task force was formed during a stakeholders meeting which was held at Zomba Community Center Hall.

Alex Juwayo, Zomba central hospital Medical personnel’s explained how the virus is transmitted, it’s signs and symptoms and how the Coronavirus can be prevented.

Director of Health and Social Services for Zomba Council Dr Alexender Chijuwa then explained how stakeholders in the district can promote awareness on COVID – 19 prevention measures.

He  added that the prevention strategies include frequent hand washing with sanitizers or any other  soap and social distance.

The District Commissioner  Dr Raphael Piringu, called on stakeholders to collaborate in ensuring that the awareness messages reach to the public and all work places.

The task force expected to meet this week to further discuss ways and means of intensifying the awareness and prevention strategies.
