25-year-old Student dies of COVID-19 just few weeks to graduation

NIGERIA – A 25-year-old Nigerian student identified as Bassey Offiong, has allegedly died after contracting the COVID-19 (Coronavirus).

PARADISE NEWS learnt that Offiong who died last Saturday, March 28, 2020, was expected to graduate with a Chemical Engineering degree in a few weeks.

Reports have it that the deceased was allegedly being turned down several times for the Coronavirus test in the Kalamazoo area, southern Michigan, United States of America, while living off-campus, despite having fever, fatigue and shortness of breath.

The deceased sister, Asari Offiong, confirmed the death of his brother, Bassey, saying; “I told him to ask them to test him. He said they refused to test him. One medical staffer told him he had bronchitis.

However, before Bassey died, he was hospitalised at Beaumont in Royal Oak, US, and spent the last week on a ventilator in their intensive care unit.

The death toll on Coronavirus is increasing on a daily basis as Italy takes the lead with about 10,779 deaths, followed by Spain with 6,803 deaths and China with 3,304 deaths.

Others are: Iran 2,640, France 2,606, US 2,510, UK 1,228, Netherlands 772, Germany 541, Belgium 431, Switzerland 300, South Korea 158, Brazil 136, Turkey 131, Sweden 123, Portugal 119, Indonesia 114, Austria 86 and Denmark 72.

So far, Nigeria has recorded only 2 deaths, 3 recoveries with 131 confirmed cases.
