Police Officer Thrashed For Raiding Gambling Den

In a shocking incident, a gang of 12 men allegedly thrashed a policeman after a police party raided a gambling den in the D Gudi area at Bengaluru-Mysuru Road in Karnataka.

The suspected gamblers were reportedly angry with the cops after they busted the gambling racket. The policeman who was thrashed by the accused was part of the raiding team.

According to a report in Bangalore Mirror, the gambling racket was busted after police received a tip-off about the men playing cards at D Gudi.

As the police raided the place, the men ran away from the spot in a panic. However, the police managed to arrest two men and took them to the police station.

While returning to the police station after the raid, one of the constables was cornered by the accused who screamed at him for ruining their good times.

When other cops in the jeep realised about the missing cop identified as Doddabasappa, two of them returned to the place and rescued the policeman. The cops also managed to videograph the accused which helped in identifying the other suspects.

Police have identified the accused as 30-year-old Gopal, 32-year-old Krishna, 32-year-old Gundda and 30-year-old Nagesh. Police say they are working to identify other accused who have fled from the spot.

According to the constable Doddabasappa, who is posted at Ramnagar Police Station, the accused did not back off from thrashing him even after the intervention from the local residents.

“The constable was manhandled. We are ascertaining the identity of the other accused and they will be arrested soon. We had received complaints about the gambling in the area since the lockdown,” said a police officer.

The accused have been booked under Section 149 (unlawful assembly), 353 (assaulting a public servant on duty) of the Indian Penal Code (IPC).
