US repatriates 88 Americans from Malawi

United States government through its embassy in Malawi has today ,24th April, 2020 repatriated 88 American citizens amidst growing numbers of Covid-19 cases in Malawi.

According to a statement posted on the embassy’s Facebook page, the people voluntarily expressed interest to be repatriated to their home country.

The repatriated Americans were seen off at Kamuzu International Airport (KIA) by the US Ambassador to Malawi Robert Scott.According to Scott safety and security of US citizens around the world is their number one priority.

He said, “We are rising to meet the historic challenge posed by the COVID-19 pandemic, every day, all over the world.

The Department has repatriated, or helped to repatriate, over 65,653 US citizens from over 124 countries.

This is an unprecedented effort to bring Americans home from all across the globe, including from remote locations and destinations with strict quarantine orders and travel restrictions.”

There were other nationals who have also other nationals that left the country today. In total there arw 143 people who have been repatriated including British and German citizens.

The flight departed from KIA at 16:40 and flew to Dulles International Airport in Washington DC via Addis Ababa and Dublin.
