Electoral partners of United Transformation Movement (UTM) and Malawi Congress Party (MCP) are today scheduled to engage the Southern Region Commissioner of Police over security worries

The meeting follows the recent physical attacks on alliance’s officials in Mulanje and Phalombe in the second phase of voter registration exercise by suspected Democratic Progressive Party (DPP) cadets.

According to reports over the weekend some monitors belonging to the alliance were manhandled.

There are fears that violence may escalate in the coming days and weeks as the official campaign period gains momentum ahead of the July 2 fresh presidential election hence the move to engage the police in the matter as they safeguard internal security.
