3 Approved In The Presidential Race

Malawi Electoral Commission (MEC) has approved three names of presidential candidates to take part in the fresh presidential elections.

MEC chairperson Jane Ansah said this at the third National Elections Consultative Forum (NECOF) Meeting in Mangochi.

Ansah said the three are Lazarus Chakwera of Malawi Congress Party (MCP) and his running mate the state vice president Saulos Chilima who is also the leader of United Transformation Movement (UTM)

Peter Mutharika of Democratic Progressive Party (DPP) and his United Democrat Front (UDF) leader Atupele Muluzi.

Lastly MEC has approved Peter Kuwani of Mbakuwaku Movement for Development (MMD).

The election will be held after the Supreme Court of Appeal upheld the nullification of the May 21, 2019 presidential vote, citing irregularities.
