Police at City Mall in Lilongwe have arrested a 27-year-old Mozambican national, Brema Nkhoma, on suspicion of stealing property worth K7.5 million from his employer.
Lilongwe Police Public Relations Officer Inspector Hastings Chigalu said Nkhoma was employed as a watchman and gardener at his employer’s residence in Area 9.
According to Chigalu, on June 21, 2026, the suspect allegedly took advantage of his employer’s temporary absence and stole four laptops, an iPhone, a Samsung mobile phone, a tablet and assorted jewellery before fleeing.
Following a report from the victim, police launched investigations and tracked the suspect after he reportedly activated and began using one of the stolen mobile phones.
The suspect was traced to Ntcheu, where he had allegedly gone into hiding, and was arrested on June 22, 2026.
Police also recovered all the stolen items during the operation.
Nkhoma is expected to appear before court to answer charges related to theft.
