A 20-year-old patient at a Detroit nursing home was charged with beating his 75-year-old roommate and another elderly patient.
The abuser allegedly recorded the assault on his phone and posted the video on social media, which prompted a reaction from President Trump.
On Sunday, May 24th, as the Wayne County Prosecutor’s Office reports, Jaden T. Hayden of Ypsilanti was charged with two counts of assault, larceny, and two counts of stealing a financial transaction device. It was unclear whether the suspect has an attorney who can comment on his behalf, according to Mail Online.
The 20-year-old man was sharing a room with Norman Bledsoe at the Westwood Nursing Center in Detroit. Authorities claim he intentionally set up a cellphone and recorded himself beating the older man. Moreover, Hayden is also alleged to have assaulted another patient at the Detroit nursing home as they lay defenseless in their hospital bed.
The violent incident happened on May 15th. When the nursing home staff found Bledsoe bleeding, the abuser told them the elderly man had fallen out of his bed. The 75-year-old man had head injuries and was immediately taken to a hospital for treatment.
According to prosecutors, Hayden posted a video of the assault on social media.
What’s more, after beating the old man, he even stole his credit card.
On Thursday, May 21st, after the extremely graphic video was brought to the attention of police, the suspect was arrested. The nursing home staff was not aware of the attack until they saw the video, as an attorney for the nursing center told Fox 2 Detroit.

In the disturbing video, the aggressor calmly faces the camera and repeatedly punches an elderly man in the face. The victim then tries to protect himself shielding his face from the multiple punches. Although the old man tries to get up, the attacker grabs him by the neck and pulls him off the bed.
When the 20-year-old turns the camera to show the injuries he has caused to his victim, blood can be seen streaming down the old man’s face. Then, the abuser can be heard saying: “This b**ch-a** n**r wouldn’t get off my bed.”
Shockingly, a separate hard-to-watch video, also posted on social media, shows the same man attacking another elderly victim.
In the distressing footage, Hayden holds his fist in front of the camera and attacks another elderly patient who is defencelessly lying in bed.
On Thursday, Detroit Police Department confirmed they had arrested someone over the incident which they claim took place at a ‘senior home’. In a tweet, the police department said:
“Thank you to everyone for your assistance in bringing the senior home incident to our attention.”
Some comments on social media alleged the incident took place at a psychiatric clinic. However, these rumors were denied by both the hospital and the Michigan Department of Health & Human Services.
