Director of campaign for the ruling Democratic Progressive Party (DPP) Ben Phiri has preached against division in the DPP-United Democratic Front (UDF) alliance for the possible victory in the fresh presidential polls.
Phiri who is also the Minister of Local Government and Rural Development, was accompanied by some DPP-UDF officials when he held whistle-stop tours in Mangochi.
According to Phiri, there are divisions in the district as people are loyal to some individuals, specifically, members of parliament that they voted in the May 21, 2019 tripartite elections, citing an example of Victoria Kingston a legislator of Mangochi Central Constituency.
Phiri advised those that are not willing to follow Kingston on a basis that they did not vote for her to revisit their decision saying that their actions might cost their victory in the fresh presidential polls.
‚ÄúIt is very unfortunate that some people are not willing to follow Kingston saying they did not vote for her, no! This is different. This is all about Adadi (Peter Mutharika) we‚Äôre all sons and daughters of Adadi so let us unite and vote for Adadi,‚ÄĚ Phiri said.
The day when Malawians will go to polls still remains in Limbo despite June 23 being proposed for the exercise.
Constitutional Court sanctioned that the country should have fresh presidential elections following nullification of May 21, 2019 presidential elections.
