Two-faced kitten Biscuits and Gravy dies only 4 days after birth

The Janus kitten was born in Oregon on May 20. He was one of a litter of six kittens born to Keenly, a cat owned by the King family. When Kyla King noticed the unusual newborn, she immediately fell in love with it and gave it the name Biscuits and Gravy.

Ever since the kitten was born, he captured the hearts of animal lovers all around the globe. Biscuits and Gravy had two noses, four eyes, and two tiny mouths. Although he had only one brain stem, he could still eat, suck, and meow from both faces. What’s more, according to the family veterinarian, he had been doing quite well for a Janus, as CNN reports.

Over the next few days, Kyla and her family documented the kitten’s development. While feeding Biscuits and Gravy was challenging, as he was able to feed himself out of both faces, he was just as playful as his siblings. One of his favorite activities was napping, just like the other kittens of the litter.

The owners share Biscuit was actually able to eat pretty decently.

However, he wouldn’t grow and had trouble carrying its head, which was too big for his tiny body.

Sadly, Biscuit eventually died of natural causes.

In an Instagram post on Biscuits and Gravy’s account, they wrote:

“This photo was taken about an hour before Biscuits died. Kyla gave up 3 1/2 days of her life to put all of her efforts into saving him. He was born with the longest of odds and by living nearly 4 days, he beat those odds.”

Shortly before the poor kitten passed away, the King family posted a short tribute to him on Facebook:

“Biscuits and Gravy is definitely a gift, God allowed this little miracle to come into our lives for some reason. My hope and prayer is that Jesus’ love and sacrifice is shown through this little life.”

Two-faced cats, or Janus cats, are named after the Roman god Janus, who had two faces – one looking into the past and the other into the future. Unfortunately, these unique kittens don’t usually survive for more than a day. However, the Janus cat Frank and Louie defied the odds and lived for 15 years. In 2006 he even appeared in the Guinness World Records book.

Sadly, Biscuits and Gravy died only 4 days into his precious life. In another Facebook post, Kyla wrote:

“I want to thank everyone so much for your kindness and love. This story has been a story of life and how very precious it is, whether days or years, whether animal or human, life is so very precious and every single life is unique. I feel so blessed to be a part of the story of Biscuits and Gravy and how he brought joy and hope to so many people.”
