Chilima accuses Bakili Muluzi of threatening to deal with him

State Vice President Dr. Saulos Chilima who is also runningmate of Malawi Congress Party (MCP) President Dr. Lazarus Chakwera has accused former President Dr. Bakili Muluzi of threatening to kill him.

Chilima made the claims in Mzuzu on Sunday during the first mega rally of Tonse Alliance which has nine political parties.

“Today I am giving a warning because on Sunday we will have another rally at the [Kamuzu] Institute for Sports in Lilongwe. What I am going to say here, I will give you six days to refute and I will tell the truth on Sunday in Lilongwe. We don’t condone violence, in fact what happened in Ndirande in Blantyre was uncalled for.

“We don’t want violence. But yesterday [Saturday] they attacked our Regional Governor for the Eastern Region, Alihaj Sande, and his car was damaged. Our patron Honarorable Masangwi was also attacked in Machinga. The violence that happened at Lilongwe UTM office I mentioned two familes: Mutharika and Muluzi and because of this Dr. Muluzi called my two friends to warn me that he is a very dangerous person,” said Chilima.

He added: “You have no right over my life. We respect you because we worked together. You also championed multiparty democracy. It does not make sense to say we should not campaign in the Eastern Region.”

Chilima then threatened to take the matter to the International Criminal Court if political violence continues in the country.

Malawi will hold fresh Presidential polls on July 2, 2020.
